health cube indonesia
Indonesia has to deal with tremendous social issues, such as poverty, unemployment and a rising gap between a rapidly growing population and inadequate infrastructure systems, which leads to perilously unhealthy life conditions. A pocket clinic has been developed to provide appropriate health care service and spread of knowledge. A health-related setting eloquent to the local identity and climate conditions play an important role in the design. The building site was chosen off the coast of Singapore in the centre of Batam Island. The Health Cube itself is located on a main street close to the industrial park Batam, to provide access for employees and transients. The hospital building is divided into separate department blocks. Each block operates independently and follows the same logic. Rooms with daylight function are placed on the outside, engineering room and registration desk on the inside. The system of access routes is divided into three parts. Each department has its own corridor organized around the inner registration desk. From there patients can be transferred to the inner medical pathway and the operation theatre. The outer, public footbridge connects all department blocks and forms two big platforms. These platforms contain registration desk, food court and additional public functions. The subdivision into independent department blocks and a connecting pathway system is adapted to the design concept: wooden pathways create a light and naturally ventilated space, while air-conditioned concert blocks provide appropriate rehabilitation condition.
